Event Overview

During this event, club members will get a first-hand look at the role of Community Responders in supporting the Ambulance Service. The evening will introduce the ways volunteers help save lives in our local communities by providing immediate assistance between the time of a 999 emergency call and the arrival of professional ambulance crews.  We would also like to invite member participation in the practical sessions!

Planned Activities

  1. Introduction and Role Explanation
The evening will begin with an introduction to the Community Responder role, highlighting how responders provide essential support during medical emergencies.
  2. Practical Demonstrations in Small Groups
Members will have the chance to join small group sessions, spread around the room, to practice vital life-saving techniques using training manikins. The scenarios include:

    • Cardiac Arrest: Learn how to recognize cardiac arrest, call for help, locate and use a defibrillator, and perform chest compressions.
    • Severe Bleeding: Practice controlling severe bleeding with improvised materials until professional help arrives.
    • Choking: Review steps to assist someone who is choking.
    • Hypothermia Treatment: Discuss first-aid measures for someone rescued from water and suffering from hypothermia.

Participation Details

Members participating in the practical session will need to kneel or sit on blankets on the floor. All necessary equipment, including blankets, manikins, and training aids, will be provided. Please dress comfortably for this part of the session.

Additional Highlights

  • Responder Vehicles: The Community Responder car will be parked outside, fully equipped for members to explore. Additionally, Andy will have a SWAST vehicle on display. We kindly request two parking spaces close to the clubhouse entrance for easy access.

(Club open from 7pm – talk starts at 7.30pm)
