(Club open from 7pm – Event starts at 7.30pm)
Our local RNLI Safety Presentation Team will visit MYC, and we are excited to pilot a new format for their safety presentation. This event is highly relevant to all of us—racers, cruisers, and casual sailors alike.
Interactive Safety Challenge
The RNLI team invites our members to participate in an interactive, audience-driven safety challenge. To prepare, we need to form a crew of six members. This crew should consist of:
Importantly, crew members should not be related or regularly sail together. During the event, this team will face various challenging situations, discuss solutions, and work together to respond.
*Please contact Joanna Walpole if you would like to be a crew member – Wednesdays@myloryachtclub.org.uk*
Event Format
A narrator and assistant will guide the crew through a virtual cruise, introducing safety challenges along the way. The crew will need to collaborate, allocate tasks, and present their solutions to the audience.
The audience will also participate by evaluating the crew’s responses and considering how they would handle the same situations. After the final challenge, a general discussion will follow, facilitated by the narrator, where both the crew and audience will compare approaches and insights.
Purpose
The goal is to foster awareness and conversation about the importance of safety planning before setting sail. By participating, members will gain valuable insights, whether they are seasoned sailors or newcomers.
Lifejacket Clinic
After a short break, there will be a Lifejacket Clinic. Bring your lifejackets for a hands-on demonstration on how to check them yourself.
Let’s show our support for the RNLI by ensuring a great turnout and reinforcing our commitment to safety at sea.
