Event Details

As the RNLI celebrates its 200th anniversary, RNLI volunteers are providing this invaluable safety presentation with group problem-solving activities, and Life Jacket Clinic.

Members are invited to bring their life jackets to be checked and attend the RNLI Safety Presentation, where audience participation will be key.

The format of the evening will include:

  1. Members will be divided into 5 or 6 different “crews,” seated together in a circle of chairs or around tables.
  2. Each crew will have a facilitator from the RNLI team who will spend 10 minutes with them, challenging them to work out solutions to various safety problems as a team.
  3. The RNLI facilitators will rotate among the crews, ensuring interaction with each group.

Depending on the number of participants, the 10-minute quick-fire challenges could cover topics such as:

a) Calling for medical help and advice? How would you get medical help and when?
b) When and how would you recognise an emergency, and when would you call for help in an evolving scenario?
c) Lifejacket faults, how many can you find in 5 different lifejackets?
d) Engine problems. Your engine stops or will not start, what are you going to do next?
e) Divers, how would you spot them, what are their distress signals, and what should you do to keep them safe?
e) Battle of The Brains. A true or false quiz on multiple safety topics to test your safety knowledge.
